As someone from the Caribbean island of Curaçao, planning vacations always requires going the extra mile. We need to fly to a hub first before continuing our trip, which makes me want to ensure that everything is perfect once we arrive. There’s nothing worse than booking a room with the promise of a panoramic view of the Eiffel Tower or Mount Rushmore, only to find out I need to lean halfway out the window with binoculars just to catch a glimpse—or end up with a parking lot view instead.

Traveling with kids adds its own challenges. With one child going to bed early and another staying up later, we often book rooms with separate living areas. That way, our toddler can sleep peacefully in the bedroom while we enjoy time in the living room. Features like two doors to the bathroom are a lifesaver, allowing us to move around without disturbing her.

More hotels and cruise lines are starting to (or already) let you choose specific room numbers, and with apps offering digital check-in, you can even select your room yourself. This website is especially focused on destination and concept hotels. I’m starting with Disney hotels and Royal Caribbean ships, with plans to expand to more destinations in the future.
